This body of work is an exploration of individual interpretations of happiness through interviews, collection, and portraiture. My process begins by asking each participant to sit down with me to discuss their thoughts about happiness as it pertains to them and how they understand it as a broader concept. Influenced by our conversation, we meet a second time, and through collaboration with each individual I take their portrait doing my best to capture an image that reflects how they want to be seen. As I take on the role of both an image-maker and collector of insights, my purpose is to share these exchanges with my audience, utilizing presentation to mirror how those insights were shared with me.
Below are selected portraits from the series intended to be viewed while listening to the interviews.
